Shawn Whisenant (RIP) aka Ako / Akayo was a San Francisco based writer and definition of a true artist. He had roots in graffiti, tagging AKO or AKAYO all over his hometown when he was a kid, and kept it up after he moved to SF once he turned 18. He was a huge part and active member of the groundbreaking art movement that happened in SF in the 1990s. A real artist through and through, he worked with anything he could find, and his art always came first. His volume of art mostly concentrated on smaller artworks and things like stickers and zines, intricate collage works made of scraps he found while walking the city. He is truly missed, but his work and legacy continues to live on and for those of us who knew him will never be forgotten.
