JOZ AND EASY

BROOKLYN // NEW YORK

Easy is a world renowned graffiti writer and Brooklyn based artist raised in Harlem. He is one half of the legendary New York duo JOZ AND EASY. In 1982 a female classmate gave him the nickname “EASY” because of his smooth demeanor. Easy began engaging in chalkboard battles with Keith Haring in the MTA subway stations, while EASY was putting his tag up, Keith was drawing his characters, each battling to see who could cover all of the MTA Chalkboards first. Easy and Joz began painting hundreds of trains on the subway lines and then moved to the streets. Their work has become  synonymous with the historic New York street movement that influenced decades of artists to come, with Easy’s iconic tag becoming the blueprint for what was to be considered an iconic hand style.
